Just Stand Up
August 24th, 2008 | 12:30 PM CST | Jamie
The talented group of women are joining voices for the single, "Just Stand Up," a song which will benefit the "Stand Up for Cancer" fund-raising drive to be aired on September 5.
The song, conceived by Antonio "L.A." Reid, and co-produced with Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds, hits the airwaves on September 2.
Here are the lyrics:
Beyonce: The heart is stronger than you think
It’s like it can go through anything
And even when you think it can’t it finds a way to still push on, though
Carrie: Sometimes you want to run away
Ain’t got the patience for the pain
And if you don’t believe it look into your heart the beat goes on
Rihanna: I’m tellin’ you that
Things get better
Through whatever
If you fall, dust it off, don’t let up
Sheryl: Don’t you know you can go be your own miracle
Beyonce: You need to know
CHORUS
Sheryl: If the mind keeps thinking you’ve had enough
But the heart keeps telling you don’t give up
Sheryl/Beyonce: Who are we to be questioning, wondering what is what
Don’t give up
THROUGH IT ALL, JUST STAND UP!
Fergie: It’s like we all have better days
Problems getting all up in your face
Leona: Just because you go through it
Fergie: Don’t mean it got to take control, no
Leona: You ain’t gotta find no hiding place
Keyshia: Because the heart can beat the hate
Leona: Don’t wanna let your mind keep playin’ you
Keyshia: And sayin’ you can’t go on
Rihanna: I’m tellin’ you that
Miley: Things get better
Through whatever
Rihanna: If you fall
Miley: Dust if off, don’t let up
LeAnn: Don’t you know you
Natasha: Can go
LeAnn: Be your own
Natasha: Miracle
Carrie: You need to know
Ensemble: CHORUS
Mary: You don’t gotta be a prisoner in your mind
Ciara: If you fall, dust it off
Mary: You can live your life
Rihanna/Carrie: Yeah
Mary: Let your heart be your guide
Rihanna/Carrie: Yeah yeah yeah
Mariah: And you will know that you’re good if you trust in the good
Ashanti: Everything will be alright, yeah
Light up the dark, if you follow your heart
Mary: And it will get better
Mariah: Through whatever
CHORUS
Fergie: You got it in you, find it within
You got in now, find it within now
You got in you, find it within
You got in now, find it within now
You got in you, find it within
Find it within you, find it within Everyone: THROUGH IT ALL, JUST STAND UP!

A singer and dancer, of course, but who knew Fergie was a rock star?
For someone who made her name on Top 40 radio, Fergie delivered a surprisingly rock ’n roll performance Friday night for 5,734 fans at the Illinois State Fair’s Grandstand.
Fergie, a.k.a. Stacy Ferguson, took the stage to “Here I Come,” entering on top of a platform upstage, holding a microphone in one hand and twirling a rhinestone-tipped baton in the other.
She was dressed in black short-shorts and a yellow T-shirt, the latter sporting the phrase “real girls do real things” above an image of a woman holding a large handgun.
A four-piece band backed her up while six dancers twisted across the stage around her.
The band gave Fergie a more rock ’n roll sound than does her thoroughly produced, sample-heavy albums.
A few songs suffered from the stripped-down performance.
On her album, “Clumsy” leans heavily on samples of Little Richard’s “The Girl Can’t Help It.” Some of the samples played along with the band, but the live version of “Clumsy” was not as dynamic as the album cut.
That said, most songs translated well to the stage. After “Clumsy,” Fergie sang several Black Eyed Peas songs.
Still identifying herself as a Pea despite her solo success, Fergie began with “My Humps” and then ran through a medley that included “Don’t Phunk with my Heart” and “Where is the Love?”
Fergie changed costumes twice during her hourlong show, first trading the shorts and T-shirt for skin-tight leather pants and a rhinestone-studded top.
During a medley of classic rock numbers, Fergie sat on a stack of speakers, leaning out toward the audience on the track. Then she crawled and shimmed across the front of the stage.
She couldn’t hit the high notes of Led Zeppelin’s “Black Dog” the way Robert Plant could, but she moved a lot better, later pulling off a string of four one-handed cartwheels without dropping her microphone.
Halfway through the show, Fergie asked if she was in the Springfield portrayed in “The Simpsons.”
When she heard that was not the case, she said, “Well, even if it isn’t, let’s just pretend like it is. Yeah! I’m in the hometown of ‘The Simpsons!’”
Fergie turned serious, referring to a “dark period in my life,” about which she wrote one of her darkest songs, “Voodoo Doll.”
“Worshipping two Gods will get you in deep,” she sang. “Crystal will show things you’re not supposed to see.”
The lyric is a reference to her past addiction to crystal meth, which she described to The Associated Press in 2006 as “the hardest boyfriend I ever had to break up with.”
Most of the concert was more upbeat.
The opening act, Carney, seemed like a strange match for Fergie’s core fan base of teenaged and twenty-something women.
With a sound that blended the rawness of The White Stripes and the heavy hand of Zeppelin, the crowd seemed alternately engaged and bored with Carney’s half-hour opening performance.
After Fergie’s final costume change, this time into a “girly” (her description) gold dress and heels, she launched into her hit “Glamorous.”
The crowd favorite seemed to be “Big Girls Don’t Cry.” People threw up their arms and sang along, sometimes as loud as the PA system.
The concert closed with “Fergalicious.”
She sang the last, bizarre Spanglish phrase of the song: “Four, tres, two, uno.”
As if on cue, and in perfect time with the unsung zero, the state fair’s opening-night fireworks began shooting off in the distance.

This was the 18th time I have seen Fergie/Stacy in Concert. It has been 11 years since the first time I have seen her. I have traveled 16292 miles for these concerts in 7 States (IL, WI, FL, TX, AR, CA, LA) 9 in Wild Orchid, 8 in the Black Eyed Peas, this was my first Fergie Concert.
Fergie took the stage about 9pm and played for an hour, the final seconds of her last song the fair began to shoot the fireworks, at first it appeared that it was timed that way.
I was in sec QQ Row 1 Seat 7,
Songs sang:
Here I Come,
London Bridge,
Clumsy,
Black Eyed Peas- My Humps,
BEP medley,
live and let live - guns and roses,
Voodoo Doll,
Mary Jane Shoes,
Barracuda,
band jam - leaves to change,
Glamorous,
Big Girls Don't Cry,
free style, and finally
Fergalicious

Features editor Nick Rogers checked this week and discovered ticket sales for grandstand acts at the Illinois State Fair are up about 15 percent since he last checked. As of Sunday, 22,338 concert tickets had been sold. That’s up from 19,466 on July 20. (Overall advance numbers are down from last year at this time, but it’s not quite an apples-to-oranges comparison. Tickets went on sale two weeks earlier for last year’s acts.)
Nick pulled these numbers:
ZZ Top / Brooks & Dunn - 8,478 (up about 15 percent from 7,345)
Fergie - 4,150 (up about 11 percent from 3,724)
Trace Adkins / Trent Tomlinson - 2,982 (up about 10 percent from 2,709)
Huey Lewis & the News / Joan Jett & the Blackhearts - 2,511 (up about 16 percent from 2,174)
“Weird Al” Yankovic - 2,454 (up about 21 percent from 2,025)
Natasha Bedingfield / Vanessa Hudgens - 1,763 (up about 18 percent from 1,489)
Prima J was in my hometown today and was on Kidd Kraddick in the Morning. The mentioned Stefanie Ridel and said she was a former member of Wild Orchid and that is the group that Fergie came from.
This means that Stef, Renee and Stacy all have appearances on at least one Billboard chart this week! First time that all 3 have charted (albeit separately) in Billboard since Stuttering (Don't Say) peaked at #33 on the Hot Singles Sales chart in 2001.
Prima J's debut album debuted on Billboard Top 200 Albums at #172 with 3883 copies sold.
Stefanie Ridel and Ron Fair are the Executive Producers on the album, and Stef co-wrote and produced 7 tracks on the album.
Prima J - one you may have heard
Renee's song "Here I Am" featured on the Camp Rock Soundtrack
(released 6/17/08) has landed in the Billboard Hot Digital Songs Chart
at #184, selling 8318 digital copies.
Here's the link: http://www.ukmix.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=53994
In case you didn't get my earlier email, Renee is also featured in the
new Crystal Light commerical and the song "Pump It Up" is available
for download on this website: www.crystallight.com

I consider myself one of the biggest fans, so when I asked myself why I have yet to see Fergie perform as a solo artist I went out and got tickets for my home town state of Illinois for later this summer, its about a 12 huor drive from Dallas, but I'm finally going to see her perform as a solo artist. Its been some time since I have seen her on the road.
